The global smart lawn mower market is experiencing explosive growth. From the demand side, by 2023, there will be approximately 250 million courtyard gardens in the world, of which 100 million are concentrated in the United States and 80 million are scattered across Europe. Mowing is a long-term rigid demand for European and American families, giving rise to a lawn mower market worth tens of billions of dollars. According to statistics from multiple third-party institutions, the global lawn mower robot market size in 2023 will be approximately US$1.13 billion to US$2.27 billion, and is expected to reach US$2.76 billion to US$4.04 billion in 2028. With the rapid change of technology and the downward shift of price bands, category penetration is accelerating. CITIC Securities predicts that in 2025, the iteration of new products from various manufacturers in the dimensions of navigation and obstacle avoidance, climbing and obstacle crossing, and edge mowing will completely leverage the tens of billions of incremental space in the European and American markets. As a leader in the industry, Positec began developing smart lawn mowers as early as 2008, launched its first domestic product in 2011, and ranked first in the global omni-channel market share of its Worx series of smart lawn mowers in 2023-2024. Husqvarna and Positec, about 90% of the revenue of lawn mower robots of the two companies comes from the European market. According to Husqvarna’s announcement, lawn mower robots accounted for 50% to 60%, 45%, 15% and 5% of the new lawn mower sales in Northern Europe, Western Europe, Southern Europe and North America, respectively. The US "reciprocal tariff" policy has caused domestic companies that export to the US market to partially rely on imported parts and components. Tariffs have increased, raising procurement costs. However, the penetration rate of lawn mower robots in the United States is much lower than that in Europe. For example, the proportion of American households owning lawn mower robots is only 2%, and smart robots account for less than 5% of newly sold lawn mowers, while in Europe it is about 50%. Therefore, many Chinese companies choose to vigorously develop the European market. For example, Ecovacs lawn mowers have performed well in Europe, and Ninebot’s borderless lawn mower robot brand Navimow has been well received in Europe. Ninebot said that its revenue and profit growth mainly came from China and Europe, and the tariff adjustment had limited impact on overall operations. Faced with tariff barriers, Chinese companies are seeking breakthroughs in the European market. For example, the non-wired lawn mower robot uses RTK technology and visual sensors to achieve autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance. It is easy to install and greatly improves mowing efficiency. Its penetration rate continues to rise. Greebo invested in the research and development of smart lawn mowers in 2016 and started the research and development of the third-generation smart lawn mower in 2022. In 2025, a new generation of smart lawn mowers will be launched. The third-generation smart lawn mower robot uses RTK centimeter-level high-precision satellite positioning, visual obstacle avoidance/navigation, millimeter-wave radar, ToF depth camera, inertial navigation system and other multi-sensor integrated positioning and navigation algorithms. It can identify various obstacles in real time, such as stones, pet toys, watering nozzles, etc., and adjust the path in time to avoid collisions; millimeter wave radar and ToF depth camera further enhance the perception of the surrounding environment, whether it is day or night, it can accurately judge the distance and shape of obstacles; the inertial navigation system ensures that the robot can still operate stably in complex terrain and poor signal conditions. Recent information shows that the demand for Greebo's intelligent lawn mowing robot products in the European market has increased significantly. It is revealed that the European market has added 30% of orders after the Spring Festival, and the volume of some orders has increased exponentially year-on-year. At present, the company's high-end models for large lawns are priced at about 6,500 euros, and the price range of civilian models covers 1,000 to 2,000 US dollars.
